Central Bank of Libya – Competition
Name : Central Bank of Libya
Type : Competition (by invitation )
Location : Tripoli, Libya
Date : 2014
A Sandstone block rising from the dunes holded by Mediterranean breezes,
Symbolizing the strength and solidarity of Libyan People,
Securing the proceeds of its natural wealth in its vaults.
Archinaut was invited to participate for the competition of new Central Bank of Libya Main Headquarters. The site of the project was located at the outskirts of downtown and surrounding suburbs of Tripoli. A new design within a new country allowed bold architectural ideas to be implemented. A giant vault building in the shape of a sandstone block represented a constant and a secure building. A scale bigger than humans was introduced in order to represent the ideals that government buildings are not meant for individuals but rather the whole society. The Vault building is the center of circulation where people pass over the dome vault rooms to enter the building, seeing each time where the national wealth is protected.
Rest of the building is in direct contrast with the Cube, becoming transperant and open, with open atriums and clear facades with only double skin sun shade with specific density at specific location of the building.
